Workshops

I was always a lover of mosaic art. I collected it, but never thought I had any talent for actually creating it. That is until I met a mosaic artist and teacher at an art festival who encouraged me to give it a try. I was very intimidated. I never did anything artistic. I took my first worksop in 2009 and, as the saying goes, the rest is history.

The joy this art form has brought to my life is the reason I want to teach others. My hope is to bring your artistic talent, and I think everyone has it whether they know it or not, to its fullest potential in a fun, no pressure environment. In this workshop, you will learn how to make a mixed media mosaic that looks like it has been embroidered in jewels! You will learn to arrange materials like jewelry, chains, beads, glass, shells, stones and other ephemera into a cohesive yet free flowing design. There is no grouting so almost any materials will work. Debra will help you develop your basic design outline and color palette and advise you on which elements will work and complement each other. She will then show you how to adhere and layer your materials into a design resembling a beautiful embroidered fabric. You can “embroider” an 8x8” or 6x6” cradled panel. When the day is over you will go home with a stunning mosaic ready for hanging.

Birds and Other Creatures Mosaic Workshop - August 27th - August 28th

Come join me in Prescott, AZ for my signature Birds and Other Creatures workshop.

We meet from 10am - 4:30pm (Pacific Time) on Saturday and Sunday, with a break for lunch.

I’ll will instruct you on the various materials and adhesives that work for 3D vertical applications, and help you navigate nooks and bumps your creature may have so you can work on a smooth surface.

We’ll cover how to make glass feathers, how to cover beaks, or how to make unique hats and headdresses, and how to incorporate beading onto your creature.

Whether you pick a bird, a cat, a dog, a snowman or whatever else in between, I’ll will guide you in transforming your creature into a work of art. (If you would rather work on a non-creature like a vase or some other 3D vessel, you can do that as well.)
